ABOUT DONALDSONVILLE DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT DISTRICT

Mission

The Donaldsonville Downtown Development District was created by State Legislature in 2005; the DDD is a governmental, not-for-profit entity whose purpose is to foster future growth within the Donaldsonville Historic District, and to stimulate economic development within the city, using historic preservation a catalyst for our projects. The Donaldsonville Historic District is the 2nd largest historic district in the state of Louisiana (behind only the French Quarter) with 50 square blocks and over 650 historic structures, and the 3rd oldest city in the State (established 1806, older than the State of Louisiana itself).

Funding for the Donaldsonville Downtown Development District currently comes from an Inter-Governmental Agreement with the City of Donaldsonville, Ascension Parish, and the State of Louisiana. This funding is further leveraged with state and federal dollars, sponsorships and fund-raising activities. The DDD is governed by a seven member board, and is always looking for volunteers committed to organizations mission, and to the future of the City of Donaldsonville.

The Donaldsonville Historic District has long been the best kept secret in South Louisiana. The Donaldsonville Downtown Development District is here to expose that secret, polish her up, and display her to one and all—the Crown Jewel of the Mississippi River.
